Our Client

Our client for this position is a well established privately owned Houseware and Tabletop importer and distributor, headquartered in the greater New York area.

Objective

The Director of Sales is in charge of implementing the sales strategy of the company by managing the sales department, opening new accounts and developing existing ones in North America.

Ideal Profile

The ideal profile for this position is a high potential and commercially aggressive Director of Sales from the Houseware and/or Tabletop industry. He/She will have to have an open and updated address book of buyers in the industry at a national level, a perfect knowledge of USA and Canada markets, and excellent management skills.

Job Description

  • Implement the sale strategy design with the VP of Sales & Marketing
  • Grow Sales in North America by managing the sales team on the field
  • Set territories and goals
  • Hire, train and develop the Sales staff
  • Open new key accounts and develop sales with existing ones (discounters, mass retailers, specialty stores, department stores, independents and warehouse clubs)
  • Forecast sales and margins by territory, account, category and line
  • Develop impactful promotions, sales programs and merchandising plans in partnership with marketing to drive sales
  • Conduct market audits, provide competitive and opportunity assessment and business development direction including new products to marketing
  • Work with VP of Sales & Marketing to design, develop and execute new channel development initiatives
  • Responsible for achieving volume, profitability and related financial performance objectives
  • Responsible for sales and trade marketing budgets
  • Provide leadership and energy to the sales effort that results in regular, profitable business growth
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the order process and adjust as needed
  • Monitor the accounts’ inventory
  • Manage the in-house administrative sales staff

Requirements

  • Up-to-date address book of buyers with all the retailer types mentioned above in USA and Canada (in particular Department Stores, Specialty Stores and large independents)
  • Perfect knowledge of the Houseware and Tabletop categories (Cutlery Knife Sets, Gourmet Gadgets, Cookware, Electric Appliances, Dinnerware, Tableware, Flatware, Glassware, Stemware, Chinaware…)
  • Either a pure background in sales from the industry or coming from Product Management
  • Deep understanding of the marketing aspects of the business
  • Very good analytical and financial skills
  • Very strong management skills
  • Very entrepreneurial and visionary
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Open to travel (50% minimum)
